Coming To Netflix August 2016 | New On Netflix Next Month
The Get Down is Coming to Netflix in August! As a giant fan of New York Hip Hop in the early 90’s and Camp Lo in particular, this is like the album cover of Uptown Saturday Night come to life! It’s a little more Hip Hop than the scene in the The Sugar Shack by Ernie Barnes, the inspiration for Uptown Saturday Night, and we’ll see if that is how the series unfolds. Catch the trailer here, it was posted back in January so they teased this one a while, and it’s finally here!
Also Coming to Netflix in August is XOXO, which as a giant fan of Electronic Music since the 90’s as well, I’m mildly excited about, but with a large side order of cringe on the way. When I see something billed as an “EDM comedy” I expect a bunch of overly commercial songs, or “bangers” as we say in the Dance scene, and DJs yelling “1-2-3 JUMP”, which gets a lot of hype, but is far removed from what I listen to and love, but the legendary Pete Tong is on board as Producer so there is hope!
A man who needs no introduction in the Electronic Scene, Steve Aoki has a documentary titled I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead arriving August 19th, which will probably be the better of the two EDM offerings this month. Aoki has a long discography of his own, and as owner of Dim Mak, he helped launch the careers of numerous high quality artists including Bloc Party, MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, Klaxons, Keys N Krates, and on and on.
