New Charlie Kaufman, baby!

This guy has been making his introspective and off-the-wall, left-of-center, outside the box contributions to American culture for a couple of decades now, and whether we got people living inside John Malkovich’s head, or a rom-com centered on memory erasure, or a playwright writing the play of his life while also living it, Charlie Kaufman always delivers on a story that asks big questions in interesting and entertaining ways.

These movies like “Adaptation” and “Anomalisa” find ways to mix genre and movie tropes with new ideas and concepts that wouldn’t normally find their ways into major movie releases these days, and with “I’m Thinking of Things” we have Kaufman, through book adaptation, exploring a deteriorating relationship in the comfortable wrappings of a horror film.

It is going to be weird and wild and different and surely there will be people who see this, don’t “get it,” and then dismiss it. Don’t be one of those people. Open your mind, and accept the Kaufman into your brain.

The Devil All The Time

Coming to Netflix September 16, 2020

Full Review of The Devil All The Time from Cinema Crespodiso #402 – Grunts and Dinosaur Screeches

Preacher Batman teams with Sheriff Bucky Barnes to do spiritual battle with country bumpkin Spider-Man. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Cause that’s what we have with “The Devil All The Time,” a psychological thriller about a backwoods preacher (Robert Pattinson) trying to get Satan to help with his, uh, general stuff I guess, and the local Sheriff (Sebastian Stan) helps him out as well, and a young man (Tom Holland) finds himself trying to protect his family.

Throw in Nanobot John Connor (Jason Clarke), Not Jennifer Lawrence (Haley Bennett) and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (Mia Wasikowska) and you have one helluva hot, young to middle aged cast of successful white people. And we could use more movies about bad country preachers, seems like an underrepresented genre if there ever was one.
