Unsolved Mysteries
Coming to Netflix – July 1, 2020
Take a big dose of nostalgia, a giant hunk of true crime popularity, and a massive pandemic keeping people at home, and you have the recipe for the perfect time for Netflix to launch their reboot of the Unsolved Mysteries television program.
Each episode will feature a different…wait for it…unsolved mystery, and just like the original show, will end with an opportunity for people to provide relevant information. OG show host Robert Stack passed away in 2003 at the age of 84 so they decided to go host-less like the Oscars and that’s a good idea, we don’t need a host anyway. The UNSOLVED…MYSTERIES…are the star of the show, it’s in the dang title! Someone should also come up with an Unsolved Mysteries companion podcast because that’s a thing and people like those.
The first six episodes will be based on disappearances, usually with a supernatural bent, and that’s the stuff we are here for in America. Spooky stuff! True crime! Unanswered questions, er, I mean Unsolved Mysteries! We love ’em!
The Old Guard
Coming to Netflix July 10, 2020
The writer and director of acclaimed movies Love & Basketball (2000) and Beyond the Lights (2014), Gina Prince-Bythewood, has teamed up with Skydance Media to make The Old Guard, an adaptation of the Image comic of the same name, centered on a group of immortal warriors and assassins who find themselves under their greatest threat yet.
Charlize Theron has put together a varied career of diverse roles in varying genres and The Old Guard is going to be another notch on her action star belt. She’s gone from Aeon Flux to Atomic Blonde and Mad Max: Fury Road and no matter the movie she’s always amazing and, most importantly, believable, so why not amp it up with a touch of the immortality.
Like Extraction a few months ago, this could have been a good movie to see in a movie theater but that is obviously not a thing anymore, at least not new movies that people actually want to see, I guess?
So in 2020, all the worthwhile action films are…Netflix releases.
