Coming to Netflix July 14, 2021
Mother – daughter assassins team up to save a young girl from being a casualty of a gang war. Sound like fun? That’s what “Gunpowder Milkshake” wants to sell you, as Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) plays the estranged hitwoman offspring of her assassin momma, played by Lena Headey (300, Game of Thrones, The Sarah Connor Chronicles), who get the old gang back together to take on some gangs and ultimately a bad guy portrayed by the fantastic Paul Giamatti (Big Fat Liar, The Lady in the Water).
From the director of “Big Bad Wolves” (named the best movie of 2013 by Quentin Tarantino), “Gunpowder Milkshake” also brings in the prodigious talents of Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Carla Gugino, and honestly I don’t know if they have enough royal jewels in the world to account for all these absolute QUEENS appearing together in one movie.
This sounds pretty exciting so let’s not allow the fact that this movie was at one point acquired by the completely lackluster and consistently disappointing STX Entertainment get in the way of being hyped about this possibly cool as hell movie.

You know what the revelation really is with “Masters of the Universe?” The existence of this show reveals that we have reached the point the folks in my age range have reached the period in their lives in which they can actually make the Big Decisions and can Get Things Made. Which mean, people like me, who are now officially “old,” can indulge in a decently-budgeted reboot of our favorite youthful entertainment. Do you pay taxes, and mow your lawn, and worry about stock prices? Do you have a 401K? Have you perused the hair dye aisle lately? Are you OLD? Then here comes “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” an updated blast of nostalgic past to punch your heart right in the face with the good feelings of revisiting your childhood.
Are you not-so-old, or maybe even kinda young, and have no nostalgia for this extended toy commercial that aired on tv from 1983 to 1985? Then maybe you’ll still appreciate this crass mash up of Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian, which on paper does indeed sound awesome. And of course, when I was 4 years old, I DID think it was awesome. But now we’re old. We’re all old. And our old peers want to relive their youths.
